Spongebob is a Member of the LGBTQIA+

Just recently, Nickelodeon shared photos of their characters to celebrate Pride Month. Captioned “celebrating pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month”, the post featured Korra from Avatar: The Legend of Korra, Schwoz Schwartz from Henry Danger, and Spongebob Squarepants’ very own Spongebob.

In a report by People.com last 2005, Spongebob creator Stephen Hillenburg revealed that Spongebob is actually ‘asexual’. Moreover, Spongebob, together with best friend Patrick Starfish, was created to promote the homosexual lifestyle.

“It doesn’t have anything to do with what we’re trying to do. We never intended them to be gay. I consider them to be almost asexual. We’re just trying to be funny and this has got nothing to do with the show,” states Spongebob creator Stephen Hillenburg.

Month of Pride. Every year, in the month of June, the LGBT community celebrates pride in many ways. Aside from celebrating gay pride, it also serves as an opportunity to peacefully protest and raise awareness of issues surrounding the LGBT community. Pride month features community events, public speaking, educational sessions, street festivals, and many more. One of the prime highlights of the event is the pride parade, popularized by the New York Pride Parade, one of the largest parades to take place.
